About Us

Meet Kevin Wrathall, L.Ac.

Hi, I’m Kevin — founder of Renew Community Acupuncture and a long-time Marin resident. I graduated from acupuncture school in 2009, and practiced community acupuncture in Portland, Oregon, gaining early experience in the kind of down-to-earth, accessible care that still guides me today. After working for many years in San Francisco digital health and patient-experience technology, I felt pulled back to hands-on clinical practice — the calm, steady work I originally trained for. Renew is my way of bringing that back to the community I’ve raised my family in.My approach is simple - effective, grounded acupuncture that helps your body rest, reset, and heal.

A bit about me

I’ve lived in Marin for the past 15 years, where my family and I have put down roots.I love movement, especially swimming, running, biking, dance and anything outdoors.I'm passionate about sports and health.Fun fact: I’m also a soccer referee, often found on local fields keeping games flowing.Renew is built around the idea that acupuncture provides highly effective and accessbile healthcare care. Whether you’re new to acupuncture or returning to it, you’re invited to come in, settle in, and let your body do what it naturally knows how to do: restore itself.

What to Expect on Your Visit

Visits are simple and relaxed. You’ll check in, have a short conversation about how you’re doing, and get settled on a comfortable treatment table. Everyone stays fully clothed — you’ll just roll sleeves up to the elbows and pant legs up to the knees. We’ll place a small number of gentle, thin needles, and you’ll rest quietly for as long as you need. Many people fall asleep, which is completely normal and a sign that your body is settling into the treatment. When your session is complete, you’ll get up slowly and take your time. Acupuncture works by supporting your body’s natural healing processes, with meaningful changes in your symptoms over the hours and days that follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a community acupuncture session?

You’ll get settled onto a comfortable treatment table. We’ll check in briefly about what’s going on for you, place a few gentle needles on your arms and legs, and you’ll rest quietly for 20–45 minutes. Most people feel deeply relaxed.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel very little — sometimes a brief pinch or a warm, tingly sensation that settles quickly. You should always feel comfortable. If anything doesn’t feel right, we adjust immediately.

What do I wear?

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to your lower arms (below the elbows) and lower legs (below the knees). You stay fully clothed the entire time.

How much does it cost?

Sessions are $45. We keep a credit card on file and simply run your payment after your treatment, so you can rest, head out when you’re ready, and skip any payment hassle.

Do you offer specials or discounted pricing?

From time to time we offer things like intro rates, multi-visit options, or community specials to help keep care accessible. Any current specials will be listed on the booking page or shared at the clinic. If cost is a concern, please talk with us.

Do you take insurance?

Not at this time. Keeping things simple and affordable helps avoid surprise bills and lets us focus on care instead of paperwork.

How long is a session?

Plan for about an hour, including check-in and resting time. Some people like a shorter rest; others stay a bit longer — both are completely fine.

What conditions can acupuncture help with?

People often come in for stress, anxiety, tension, headaches, sleep issues, digestion concerns, and general aches or pain. Acupuncture supports your body’s natural ability to unwind and reset. We avoid big promises, but for many people, regular sessions make a meaningful difference.

Is it safe?

Yes. We use sterile, single-use needles and follow clean-needle and safety standards. Acupuncture is considered very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner.

What if I fall asleep or snore?

That’s great. It’s a sign your body is settling into rest mode. Snoring happens — it’s normal and not a problem.

How often should I come?

It depends on what you’re hoping to shift. For a specific issue, most people come weekly for 3 to 10 weeks to get things moving. For general maintenance, stress support, or ongoing wellbeing, coming once or twice a month often works well. We’ll talk together about what fits your needs, schedule, and budget.

Why is treatment done in a shared room?

Community acupuncture works best when people rest together. It keeps care affordable, creates a calm shared atmosphere, and lets us treat people steadily and attentively. Most people find the group setting surprisingly peaceful.

What if I’m nervous or sensitive to needles?

That’s completely okay. We’ll go slowly, use fewer needles if needed, and check in as we go. The goal is comfort. Many people who start out nervous end up relaxing deeply and coming back regularly.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

Yes. You can book appointments together and rest in the same quiet room, on separate tables. Many people enjoy coming with someone they know.
